Reading, Listening, Watching 9

I'm back with another instalment of Reading, Listening, Watching to give you some inspiration for your latest form of entertainment. The weeks are flying by right now and it's almost time for the boys to go back to school. It's a worrying time and I don't know how comfortable I am with them going back, but I can't stop them. They're both in new schools and it's exciting for them, I'm just hoping it's a good step. But anyway, this is supposed to be about entertaining yourself, so let's get on with the reading.

Reading

Since the last post I finished reading Recursion and a review will be on the blog soon. Recursion was one of those books where you're not sure if you're enjoying it, until you are. The story was easy to follow but I didn't know where it was going and couldn't see how it would be an interesting read. I'll just say I was wrong - I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

He has wondered lately if that's all living really is—one long goodbye to those we love.

Blake Crouch, Recursion

After Recursion I started reading In A House Of Lies by Ian Rankin. I'm about 15% through and am enjoying it so far. In A House Of Lies is the first of Ian Rankin's books that I've read but I like it so far. It's a usual crime-fiction story and I'm enjoying the whodunnit style.

Listening

Listening to playlists has continued but just lately I've turned to TV programmes to listen to including the Ted Bundy Tapes, Cold Case Files, and The Confession Killers, on Netflix. Real life incidents can help with inspiration so these documentaries are interesting. They also remind me of reading Wicked Beyond Belief, the book about Peter Sutcliffe, The Yorkshire Ripper. It's intriguing to read about the processes the police go through to convict killers, and the impact the murders have on communities.

Watching

We have continued working our way through series of The Good Wife, and we've got through them quickly. We're almost finished with it but we'll move on to The Good Fight once we're done. A while back we decided to start 'movie night' on a Saturday and we watched American Pie The Reunion, and Notes on a Scandal at the weekend. I'd forgotten how good Notes on a Scandal was but I really enjoyed watching. Going through our collection of movies we now have a list we want to watch on movie night and are working our way through them. Some movies that feature in our list include Vanilla Sky and Casino Royale.

Whenever I think I’m certain about something, I’m always surprised.

Alicia Florrick, The Good Wife

That's it for this week, hope I've given you some things to check out and if you have any recommendations for me feel free to list them in the comments.

What's your favourite movie?
